Assistant professor MMMag Dr. Barbara Strack-Hanisch
Born in Vienna 1979 Barbara Strack-Hanisch started to play the flute at the age of 9 followed by the classical saxophone and the clarinet. Her studies of the flute and the saxophone at the same time at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (Prof. Oto Vrhovnik) and at the Private Conservatory of Music Vienna started in 1994.  She passed all her exams with distinction and got her degrees in music education for Saxophone and flute as well as a concert soloist and a pedagogue with both instruments.  2007 she did her PhD in musical history at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. 
Her teaching career started in 1999 at various musical schools and master courses. Since 2005 she works as assistant professor together with Prof. Oto Vrhovnik at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In addition to her teaching career she is performing on a regular base as substitute with all the famous Austrian Orchestras e.g. the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the orchestra of the Viennese Opera House as well as a fix member of various chamber music ensembles. Barbara Strack-Hanisch is well known for being a jury member at various music competitions throughout all Austria and has won many important prices herself.
2012 she qualified as an extraordinary professor for Classical Saxophone, teaching her own saxophone class at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and since 2015 she is the head of the Leonard Bernstein Department at the same university.
She already published several music books for Saxophone and is currently writing a new music school book ordered by the Universal Edition.
